Let's dive into each one ⬇️
2/ Self-assessment (SA) πΌ
- Taxpayers assess their tax liability & file returns accordingly.
- The most common type of assessment.
- Assessees must ensure accurate reporting & timely payment of taxes.
3/ Provisional assessment (PA) ⏳
- When the assessee can't determine the tax rate/value of goods/services.
- PA allows payment of tax on a provisional basis.
- Assessees must request PA & provide a bond/security.
4/ Scrutiny assessment (SC) π
- Department officers scrutinize filed returns for accuracy.
- Aims to detect errors/inaccuracies in tax declarations.
- Assessees must cooperate & provide clarifications or correct errors.
5/ Best judgment assessment (BJA) π
- When assessees don't comply with GST norms (non-filing, incorrect filing, etc.)
- Officers assess tax liability based on available info & best judgment.
- Assessees may face penalties & must rectify non-compliance.

- SA: Accurate reporting & timely tax payment.
- PA: Request & comply with provisional requirements.
- SC: Cooperation & clarification.
7/ BJA: Rectify non-compliance & avoid penalties.
File the relevant returns: If the assessment was made under Section 62 (non-filers), the assessee should file the due returns (GSTR-3B, GSTR-1, etc.) along with the payment of applicable taxes, interest, and late fees, if any.
7A) Provide accurate information: If the assessment was made under Section 63 (non-registrants) of the CGST Act, 2017, the person should apply for registration under GST and provide accurate and complete information to the tax authorities.
